Collage

Some examples of my collage work…

Most of these collage pieces are made from cut or torn magazine paper attached to a foam board with sewing pins. I acquire the bulk of the materials I use in my artwork from second-hand stores and recycling bins. Once sorted, I break the materials down into bits and from the bits assemble collage work that both directly and indirectly responds to the source material. As the process unfolds, meaning develops through juxtaposition, repetition, and the intensity of the technique. The repetitive nature of the work is informed by traditional arts such as quilting, beading, and other fiber/textile arts. While each collage tells its own story, common threads run from piece to piece. Often, a world emerges in which reality is built up from small pieces, boundaries are distorted, and beauty is found in decay and loss.
